CHANGING A HABIT

Breaking a pattern or changing a habit

Breaking a pattern or changing a habit is difficult. Especially when it gives us a sort of security and certainty that our ego craves for.⁣

First of all, it involves acknowledging that there is a pattern which might seem secure but is not healthy for us and decide if you want to break that pattern or not.⁣

That pattern could be related to our work, eating habits, spending, relationships, lifestyle, etc. Following this pattern makes you feel surer of yourself because it has already become a part of your subconscious. And now changing it will give you some sort of discomfort, pain or in some cases trauma as well.⁣

Secondly, if you have decided that this pattern of behavior will no longer serve you it's time to find ways to break that pattern.⁣

Although breaking any habit that has been in continuation for some time is not easy, regular reminders to yourself on why you want to break that habit will reinforce the behavior while also giving you the strength you need to bear the pain you get from not following the pattern that you have been so used to.⁣

Failures

Thirdly, It also involves appreciating whatever work you have done till now and not looking at failures as something to be ashamed of because they are all part of the process. ⁣

Whatever failures that you would have had till now are not an excuse to beat yourself up or put yourself down in your own eyes. Our society wants us to treat failures as a burden to be carried around for eternity but it doesn't have to be that way. ⁣

And the fourth and final thing would be to not give up on yourself in spite of everything that is going around you. Do not let anyone mock your efforts because they do not know what you are going through. All you need to focus on is to get better at what you are doing, in this case, it's trying to quit your habit and continue doing it with or without failures. ⁣

The point is that if you are positive in your outlook towards life and give your best possible effort, the end result is not gonna matter that much.⁣

There will be disappointments if you fail but you will know that it was not for lack of trying, which can then allow you to learn from the failure and keep going ahead.
